  • Larger Brain Size: The estimated cranial capacity of the Narmada fossil is between 1,155 cc and 1,200 cc.
  • Divergence from H. erectus: This is significantly higher than the average capacity of classic Asian Homo erectus (Peking Man/Java Man), which typically ranges from 800 cc to 1,000 cc, placing Narmada Man closer to more derived hominins.

  • Maximum Cranial Breadth: In classic Homo erectus, the maximum breadth of the skull is located low at the cranial base. In the Narmada calvaria, the maximum breadth is located much higher up on the parietal bones, a trait characteristic of more advanced hominins.
  • Vault Shape: The cranial vault of Narmada Man is more elevated, rounded, and less elongated/flattened than the typical Homo erectus skull.
  • Mosaic Traits: While it has robust features (like a prominent supraorbital torus/brow ridge), its overall structural anatomy represents a "transitional" or mosaic form rather than a classic erectus.

  • Robust Clavicles: Later discoveries by A.R. Sankhyan at the same site yielded hominin clavicles (collarbones) that were unusually short and thick, suggesting a very stocky, possibly "pygmy-like" build.

  • Homo sp. indet. (indeterminate): A cautious approach recognizing that a single partial calvaria is insufficient for defining a definitive species.
